Epistylis
Also called epistylis, red sore disease
Signs
- Short white fuzzy tufts on red sores
- Often on the fins or near scales
Cause
A stalked protozoan that grows on sores, usually in water high in waste. Often confused with fungus.
What to do
Improve water quality, use salt and an anti-protozoan or antibacterial treatment. Fungus medicine alone often fails.
If a fish is badly ill, talk to an aquatic vet.
Prevention
Clean water, low waste.
