Vent prolapse
Also called prolapse, prolapsed vent
Signs
- Red or pink tissue sticking out of the vent
Cause
Constipation, gut worms, straining to spawn or injury.
What to do
Isolate the fish, keep water very clean, use an Epsom salt bath and treat the cause (worms or constipation). See a vet if it doesn’t go back in a few days.
If a fish is badly ill, talk to an aquatic vet.
Prevention
Varied diet; deworm new fish.
