Where it lives in the wild
The story of the red rainbowfish
Found only in Lake Sentani in Indonesian New Guinea, where it was first collected on the 1899-1900 Siboga Expedition and described by Max Weber in 1907. Males turn deep salmon-red. Live fish reached Europe after a 1973 collecting trip. It is listed as Endangered, threatened by development and introduced fish such as tilapia.
Dutch zoologist Max Weber described this rainbowfish in 1907 from Lake Sentani in New Guinea. Young fish are silvery, but adult males develop a deep red colour and a tall, arched back. It is found nowhere else in the wild, so captive-bred stock is important.

- Females stay olive-silver.

Spelling correction, not a new species: Glossolepis is feminine, so the species name must be incisa (FishBase uses incisa). 'Glossolepis incisus' remains the usual hobby spelling (Seriously Fish, ANGFA); keep it as an other name.

FishBase: Glossolepis incisa summary · Seriously Fish: Glossolepis incisus - Size

FishBase: Glossolepis incisa summary · Seriously Fish: Glossolepis incisus · Wikipedia: Red rainbowfish (cites IUCN, Allen) - Temperaturecorrected
Seriously Fish (preferred) 24-29 °C. ANGFA: Lake Sentani surface water is 29-32 °C; FishBase gives about 29-30 °C. Legacy 22-26 is too cool; Seriously Fish notes temperature affects how many males colour up.
Seriously Fish: Glossolepis incisus · ANGFA Queensland: Glossolepis incisus - pH
Seriously Fish gives 7.0-8.0, matching legacy. ANGFA records pH 6.2-6.8 in the lake itself, but aquarium sources agree on hard, alkaline water.

Seriously Fish: Glossolepis incisus · FishBase: Glossolepis incisa summary - Smallest tankcorrected
Seriously Fish: 120 x 30 x 30 cm = 108,000 cm³ = 108 L (a 120 cm long tank for this active swimmer). FishBase gives a minimum 100 cm length. Legacy 250 L is generous but not the sourced minimum; the 120 cm length matters more than volume.
