Bubble nester: the male builds a simple bubble nest under a leaf, a submerged overhanging rock or sometimes at the surface. Both parents tend the brood (female tends the eggs, male defends the area).
A pair in a quiet planted tank.
120 L planted tank with floating plants and caves.
Warm water and live food.
About 500 eggs (pink, under 1 mm); they hatch 2-3 days after spawning.
Newly hatched brine shrimp then crushed flakes.
Fully grown males are noticeably larger, with longer unpaired fins and longer filaments on the tail fin; juveniles cannot be sexed.
Typical for bubble-nest builders

The male wraps the female and places eggs in the nest. Remove the female after spawning.
Eggs hatch in 24–48 hours. The male catches falling fry and returns them to the nest.
Remove the male. Feed infusoria and keep the air above the water warm and humid.
Move on to baby brine shrimp and microworms. Change small amounts of water daily.
Males start fighting at about 8 weeks and need their own jars.
