Also called gas supersaturation
Water supersaturated with dissolved gas (often nitrogen): cold or pressurised water (e.g. deep well water through a submerged hose) warmed too fast or released from pressure, faulty pumps, and rarely heavy algal blooms in ponds.
Aerate vigorously to drive excess gas out of the water, and fix the source (faulty pump, cold or pressurised source water). Aerate incoming water, e.g. by spraying it in from above.
If a fish is badly ill, talk to an aquatic vet.
Keep pumps in good order; aerate or spray in new water (especially cold well water) rather than filling through a submerged hose; do not warm cold water too fast.
