The story of the blue-eyed livebearer

A small southern Mexican livebearer with bright blue eyes that lives in shoals in flowing streams and leaps to catch flying insects.

Mexican ichthyologists José Álvarez and Jorge Carranza described this livebearer in 1952. Its bright blue eyes make it a charming fish for community tanks.

First described by José Álvarez & Jorge Carranza in 1952.

  • Its eyes glow bright blue.
  • It prefers flowing, well-oxygenated water.
  • It lives in small schools near the surface.
