A see-through glassfish from South Asian ponds, canals and paddy fields. Besides small crustaceans and insects, adults are part-time scale eaters: they sneak up on other fish and rake off scales with hooked teeth on the lower jaw. Locally it is sold for food in markets.
Francis Hamilton described this glassfish in 1822 in his famous survey of the fishes of the Ganges. Its body is so transparent that the skeleton can be seen. It occasionally appears in the hobby as a predatory oddball.
First described by Francis Hamilton in 1822.

Valid name. Catalog of Fishes habitat: freshwater, brackish (mainly fresh water; no salt needed). Wikipedia notes it is the only species of Chanda in FishBase's treatment; do not confuse it with the Indian glassfish, now Chanda ranga (formerly Parambassis ranga) in Catalog of Fishes, which is the common 'glassfish' of the trade.

FishBase: Chanda nama, Elongate glass-perchletNo source rates its temperament directly; but adults attack other fish to eat their scales (Grubh & Winemiller 2004), so it is not a peaceful community fish. Legacy 's' is kept as a fair reading.

Eschmeyer's Catalog of Fishes: Chanda nama · FishBase: Chanda nama, Elongate glass-perchlet'Transparent' and 'predator' agree. The claim that it is 'often sold to nano tanks' is unsourced; its scale eating makes it a poor nano-community fish.
