The story of the indian glassfish

Its body is see-through. For years fish farms injected it with luminous dyes and sold it as 'painted' glassfish; most injected fish die within a few months, so avoid them.

Francis Hamilton described the Indian glassfish in 1822. Its see-through body shows its skeleton and swim bladder. In the past many were artificially dyed for sale, a practice aquarists campaigned against.

First described by Francis Hamilton in 1822.

  • Its see-through body shows its spine and swim bladder.
  • Some were once injected with dye to make them brightly coloured.
  • It tolerates slightly brackish water.
