Not bred commercially ·
Bred commercially and repeatedly since 2008 by Hein Aquarium in Yangon, Myanmar: wild brood stock conditioned in strong flow, then single pairs spawned in 80 L tanks with running water. A seasonal spawner (May-July).
Wild groups are imported; pairing is not controlled in home tanks.
Species has no reliable captive spawning method; hobby spawnings are rare and unplanned.
Unknown in captivity; seasonal rain-type changes are suspected in the wild.
Eggs are laid early in the morning, transparent when fertile, about 1.5-1.8 mm across, and hatch in 24-30 hours; fry live on the yolk for about 3 more days.
Not documented in aquaria.
A small, boldly yellow-and-black banded garra from hill streams of western Myanmar's Rakhine Yoma, described in 2004. It reached the hobby in 2005, is sold as the 'panda garra', and grazes biofilm in warm (22-27 °C), well-oxygenated, flowing tanks. It is not a pure herbivore.
Kullander and Fang described this small garra in 2004 from Myanmar. Its yellow-and-black coloration made it a popular algae grazer once exported. It thrives in cool, well-oxygenated, flowing water.
First described by Sven O. Kullander & Fang Fang in 2004. Named for 'flavatra' combines Latin words for 'yellow' and 'black'.
