Dewormers

Fenbendazole

Active ingredient: Panacur C: fenbendazole 22.2% granules (222 mg/g). Safe-Guard: fenbendazole (Safe-Guard Canine granules 22.2%; other Safe-Guard forms are 10% paste/suspension for livestock)

How to use (from the label): Feed additive only: 1.14 g fenbendazole per pound (about 2.5 g/kg) of food, fed for 3 days, repeat in 2-3 weeks; diagnose first with a fish health specialist.

Careful: Some fish are sensitive: adverse effects and deaths recorded in Corydoras and other small Amazonian catfish, pencilfish (Nannostomus), madtoms, darters, suckers and brook trout. Very toxic to the crustacean Daphnia magna (48 h EC50 19 µg/L).

Rules: US: no FDA-approved dewormers for ornamental, bait or food fish; FDA uses regulatory discretion for aquarium-fish products. Panacur C / Safe-Guard Canine are labelled for dogs only.

Never mix medicines unless the label says it is safe, and remove shrimp and snails unless the label says they are safe.

Examples you may see in shops: Panacur C, Safe-Guard. Not endorsements. Always follow the label.
