Frozen whole bloodworms (midge larvae) in water with added B vitamins and vitamin C; about 95% water, crude protein min 3.2–3.5% as fed.
For: Most freshwater fish incl. bettas, cichlids, catfish, livebearers, discus, eels; also aquatic amphibians and some aquatic reptiles.
How to feed: Use as a treat, not a staple; feed only what is eaten in 30–45 seconds (Hikari), at most twice a day; remove uneaten food. Thawing: Ocean Nutrition says thawing is not recommended (drop the frozen cube in); Hikari gives no thawing instruction.
Careful: Handling bloodworms can cause allergic reactions in people: wash hands after use. Frozen Hikari product is sterilised; overfeeding causes water-quality problems; frozen/live foods can make fish refuse formulated foods.
